The Final Mission

Hello agents! This is secret agent Scarlet Jones with a final write up about my final mission as a DS106 Agent. I have worked hard and endlessly on this case and am proud to share my reports and finding with you. A you all know, I recently accepting a case out in Russia to unearth a double agent that we had amongst us. This  video below is something that has never been seen before. I left it incase I wasn’t able to return home in the hopes that it would be useful to those that were trying to find me. However, I have returned home safely and I would like to share this video with y’all so I can take you through a crash course of what happened on this mission.

I have since travelled to Russian and was able to dig up some information on this imposter.  It turns out that the double agent, Agent Zero as he is called, has been working with his Canadian mistress to send top secret information from our intelligence agency over to the Canadian intelligence agency. He has since fled to Russia to seek refuge. Luckily for me I was able to team up with Agent Fox to help bring down Agent Zero and his mistress.

Above is a mid way report that I was able to record and send back to headquarters to give them as an update on my progress. I decided to make a sound clip while I was in Russia so that I could immediately send it to my headquarters with an update of my case. I figured it would be easier then sending it through mail since I got the hint that I may be being followed and or watched.

Since then I have been able to uncover more information. It turns out that Agent Zero got a new identity upon his arrival to Russian. He and his mistress have adopted the new identity as goat photographers. They adopted this identity to try to through every off their trackers! But I am too good for them! I located their whereabouts thanks to the help of Agent Fox and his team.  I even have a few images of them conspiring together on their next double agent mission. Apparently  they were planning on taking the files and cases that he swiped from our headquarters while acting as a double agent and handing them over to the Canadian Secret Service.

You can clearly see Agent Zero and his mistress conversing about their ideas and their schemes. I had to be sly so that I would not be caught. Who knows what would have happened to me if that were the case.

It is 1 week later and I can successfully tell you that with this hard core evidence I was able to bring down Agent Zero and his sneaky little mistress. Both of them are currently being held in a detention center in Moscow with my partner on the case Agent Fox. Thanks to his help, we were able to expose the double agent and bring him to justice. This way we were also able to prevent him from leaking any further information to his Canadian sources.

Final Weekly Summary!

I absolutely loved this final project! I had such a fun time with it and was able to be so creative. I based my story line off of items 1 and 2 that were given to us in the prompt. From there I brainstormed some ideas and created a story about my final mission to Russia. I was able to use some of the information from my twitter polls in the story line as well such as Agent Zero’s new cover being a goat photographer.

For my three means of media I decided to use video, audio and visual. I think that with these three types of media I was able to get a variety of different aspects about my story and was able to bring new and exciting elements to the final mission. I tried to include some of the stuff that we learned through the weeks of the semester when doing my different media post. For example in the visual media I tried to capture things like light, depth, and contrast in my photos. This way I can show case some of the information I learned through the course. I also tried to make the images appear as though I was hiding when capturing the images. So I took them from behind trees and bushes to make them seem more realist; like how photo evidence would appear in a real secret agent case.

My favorite part about doing this project was being able to use my Kia hamster cut out as Agent Zero in my visual media section. It was perfect because he is dressed like a secret agent would be. My roommate (who is pictured as the mistress) dressed up in a similar fashion and we had a fun little photo shoot around the backyard. I think by doing this and having my Kia hamster cut out act as Agent Zero it gave my project a bit of edge and made it more fun and creative. I also just love that he fits with the theme of the project!

This weekly summary also includes my blog post with advice for future students . I hope that they find this advice helpful and take the class seriously but don’t forget to have fun and be open to new ideas!

I have really enjoyed this class this semester and have learned a lot! I can definitely use some of my knew knowledge and skills in both the professional world and my personal life. Thank you so much Professor Bonds for all of the fun and creative activities that I was able to do this semester!

Future Student Advice

My advice for any future students would be to organize and do not procrastinate. Procrastination was often my biggest downfall. The information and the assignments aren’t hard or complicated but sometimes there is a lot of work thats assigned for the week, so waiting till Thursday night or Friday to start your weekly work is probably not the best idea.

Another tip I would have for any future students would be to utilize your strengths and work on your weaknesses. My strengths included visual, design and writing. My weaknesses were defiantly audio and sometimes video assignments. When it comes to your weaknesses, definitely don’t be afraid to ask for help and or to visit the DKC.

As for new students coming into the course, have fun. This course is all about what you make it. So be creative and open and have fun!

Final Mission Progress Report

First off, I am very excited for my final mission! I have read over the information and I think this will be a fun a creative way to end the semester. I think that everything that we have worked on so far this semester has been a great way to prepare us for whats to come in the last week of the semester.

The first thing that I did was form my twitter poll questions around topics/themes/and ideas that I thought about using for my final mission. I tried to bring so fun and silliness into the questions but will end up incorporating them into a more serious theme. Clearly if you had not noticed from my questions, animals will definitely be involved in my final mission.

The digital media that I plan on using for this mission will definitely be audio, visual and either design or video or both design and video. I have some ideas that I’ve been working on. For the visual aspect of my final mission I plan on snapping some photos of certain “evidence” that goes with my storyline. I was also thinking about using either video or audio to do a recording as a cover just incase the recording falls into the wrong hands. This way it will act as a misdirection and throw the enemy off course. Of course I will be doing all of this as my secret agent Scarlet Jones.

I hope that I was able to entice you a little with the small description of my final mission.  I don’t want to give to much away so you will have to tune back in next week to see how everything turns out. I hope all of the agents out there are finishing up their final mission just a smoothly as I am here.

Over and Out!

Polling Results

And the results are in! For my twitter polls I asked questions about Agent Zero and Agent Kid. I used my questions to help me try to figure out how to incorporate this information into a storyline that I will later need for the final mission. The first poll that I did was about Agent Kid.

For this poll I was able to determine why Agent kid dognapped the dog. The options were that he needed the dog for a sidekick or that he was seeking revenge. With a vote of 4 to 2 it has been determined that Agent Kid took the dog for the purpose of dognapping for revenge. Maybe the Kid as some explaining to do? Stay tuned for the next mission to find out more information on this one.

My second twitter poll was about agent Zero. For this poll I asked the question ” What should agent Zeros new cover identity be?”. The options were Traveling elephant trainer, mouse whisperer or goat photographer. Option C, goat photographer, one with 67% percent of the votes.

I enjoyed doing this polling assignment because it was something that I have never done before. I have seen people posting polls on twitter before about stuff like “where should I eat for dinner” or “what is a good show to watch on Netflix” but Ive never actually done a twitter poll myself before. I honestly never really even knew how to do them. I also really enjoyed this assignment because I got to read other peoples creative and funny polls. I tried to take part and vote in as many as I could. I enjoyed reading them and got a good laugh out of a few, so it wasn’t that bad to do. I am now excited to take my responses and form them into a storyline for my final mission.

Stay tuned DS106!

Weekly Summary

This week I worked on mash ups and remixes. At first it was a little hard having to learn how to use photoshop and other tools. I had to watch several video tutorials to learn how to create a photoshop picture.

For my first assignment that I created I made a tutorial  for how to use the  Preview application. I used this application to create several assignments for this semester so far, specially for the movie poster mash up assignment. I took screenshots of the important steps when it comes to annotating or adding text to an image.

For the second assignment I made, was movie mash up assignment. Just like the steps showed in the previous assignment showed, I did the steps listed to make this movie poster mash up. It was not hard at all since I have used Preview several times before.

For the third assignment I created was the Something Doesn’t Belong Here assignment. I enjoyed this assignment  a lot. I got to be creative and think of two similar movies that I could combine that would be hard to tell the difference between. Can you spot the difference or the thing that doesn’t belong in the photo?

For my fourth and final assignment I decided to do the Holiday Mashup assignment. I had fun creating this assignment. At first it was difficult because I wasn’t sure how to use photoshop or Pixlr.com. But once I learned the steps to mash up the photos into one, it was a breeze.

Mash up Tutorial

For this tutorial I decided to demonstrate how to use Preview to create my movie poster mashup.

In the first photo you can see the starting point.

In this second photo you can see the how I annotated the photo. You go to tools and then scroll down to annotate. Then select the option that says “Text”.

Once you do this a text box will appear. You can drag this text box anywhere on the photo that you want.

After that you can add whatever text you want into the text box. Here I added my movie poster mash up text “Private Gump”, a mash up between Tom Hanks hits Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan.

And its as simple as that! Using Preview is really easy when it comes to annotating photographs for assignments.

Movie Poster Mash up

Two of my favorite Tom Hanks movies, Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan. I decided to do these two movies because I feel like Tom Hanks is compared in both of these movies even though they are completely different and he has completely different rolls in each film.

To make this movie poster I found the poster of Hanks from the film Forrest Gump and recreated the name to say Private Gump, combining the two main characters from each film. I was able to change the time of the movie poster by using the Preview application on my desktop.

Something Doesn’t Belong Here

For this assignment I had to take a photo from an iconic movie and add it to another iconic movie photo in a  subtle way. Can you tell what two movies they are? Can you find the thing that doesn’t belong here?

I created my assignment using Pixlr.com. Because I did the holiday mashup assignment first, I was familiar with Pixlr and was pretty much able to breeze through this assignment. The only thing that I really needed to do was find the two images that I wanted to use and then download them to my desktop. Then I had to adjust their sizes (make them smaller) so that they weren’t so enlarged when  I layered them on Pixlr to create my finished photo.

Holiday Mashup

For this assignment I used pixlr.com to create a photo combination of my three favorite holidays. In case you couldn’t tell, my favorite holidays are halloween, thanksgiving, and Hanukkah.

At first it was hard to figure out. It took me about an hour to learn how to edit the photos and layer the other images on top of the original image. I ended up having to watch 3 different video tutorials. Eventually I was able to figure out how to layer the images to make it look like one image.

Week 11 Summary

This week was a little stressful for me. I was in a car accident on Sunday and have been dealing with insurance stuff all week regarding my injuries, car and rental car. I know that I am missing an assignment or two, unfortunately I didn’t have time to complete everything with everything else going on.

I did complete the video assignments. The first assignment that I did was the college collage assignment. This project was fun for me because I was able to relive a lot of old college memories that I haven’t thought about in a while just by looking through old pictures (and by old I mean at most 4 years old).

My next assignment was the “Pay Homage” assignment. I decided to do this assignment not only because I love animals but because my secret agent character Scarlet Jones also loves animals and is a veterinarian, so I found this to be the perfect assignment. I was able to make this video (as well as the college collage video) by using iMovie.

The other video assignment that I created was the Reliving a Memory assignment. For this video I had my roommate Stephanie, recreate her least favorite memory. Even thought it is a pretty recent memory, the dislike for it is still relevant. I simply used my phone to make this video. I was also able to practice my angle techniques because she actually had me shoot the video 2 different times because she didn’t like the angle the first video was at.
